After a few weeks of freedom Tom unfortunately had a seizure at home two weeks ago. It was a smaller seizure and amazingly he felt it coming and was able to call out for me. He was also sitting and so he did not get injured. Olive who normally cowers during his seizures did the most amazing thing and went up and licked his face. He came out of it after a bit and was back to normal. If he had to have another one the timing was good as he had his regularly scheduled scan a few days later which was thankfully stable. We went on to have a lovely anniversary staycation here in Portland. We have a few theories why this one happened and I have some more questions for his doctor now that I have had two weeks to obsess over this. Thankfully the seizure was not bad but the result was the same-it reopened my fear and trauma from witnessing his very bad February seizure and for Tom he lost his freedom and driving again. We are in a weird limbo of waiting for more but Tom remains resilient and refuses to be “put back in a cage”. So we are letting him live his life, he’s still riding and everyone is watching him carefully. I was gone on Saturday for a friend’s bday and one of his wonderful teammates took him to their race. He promised me he would not “ride too hard”. He kept his promise and lived up to the Team Food Baby motto of not finishing last. He finished 2nd to last 😜. Another teammate sent me my new favorite photo of him. His face says it all!
